Greetings friends and trolls, this newsletter has been a long time coming, my inner circle tells me it’s time to lift the vibes so here we go…
The DM in your inbox today is the chipper one, Stormcloud Murphy has left the chat. We are so blessed, the sun is shining, Trump’s on it, Albo has a plan and inflation has eased. That 0.2% has nothing to do with the fuel excise discount…right? To quote the guy strapped to the chair in that bungee video “let me tell you something”, I just can’t wait to fill up my car next week.
Sorry, the vibes, yes. Despite the swirling headwinds and general levels of anxiety out there we love working with our clients because ultimately what we get to do is help people move through a really stressful time in their lives. This morning I was reassuring a client that she didn’t need to apologise for being a little crazy when we sold her house and I texted saying “it’s fine, it can be hard when you are changing your shell”. And yes, I just quoted myself.
Real estate is about punctuating a period in your life, letting go, leaving something behind, not always an easy thing to do.
For anyone wanting a feel good 30 minutes in these turbulent times allow me to refer you to Bluey. A couple of weeks ago I was on my couch with my 3 year old boy watching the episode ‘The Sign’. Whilst watching I was explaining to him that Daddy was the real life agent Bucky Dunstan (voiced by Rove McManus for the pub trivia players).
Halfway through the episode I went quiet and found myself welling up, I looked across at my better half and she was a puddle. I won’t spoil it for you but it reminded me of how this job really is more about personal support than commissions. Us Aussies love our homes, and why wouldn’t we? Despite all of the noise we are all blessed to live in the lucky country and spring is just around the corner.
Ok so now I’m way out of my comfort zone, normally at this stage I’m wildly swinging at cringe agents driving around in cars filming videos or attempting to trick people with false promises. Well, the good news is that this market will shake out a lot of the charlatans who are leaving the industry…don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
I promised good vibes so that was my attempt at a warm and fuzzy Doogie Howser’esque note. Oh, and for the record for my competitors who claim I’m negative I say shoosh. In an insecure moment I asked ChatGPT “why is being realistic important?”. The answer: “it grounds your expectations, improves sound decision making and protects your mental well being”.
